Helio Flores has been working as a cartoonist for nearly 50 years. Since 1971 he collaborates in the newspaper El Universal (Mexico City), where he publishes his political cartoons.The "Hombre de Negro" (Man in Black) is a character first appeared in the first issue of La Garrapata. El azote de los bueyes, a magazine that sought independence and away from censorship and was founded by Eduardo del Río, "Rius"; Rogelio Naranjo, Emilio Abdalá AB and Helio Flores.
